Grizzlies Win on Senior Day

The Guilford Grizzlies Varsity Team defeated Notre Dame - West Haven, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at GHS Field. The game was also "Senior Day", as the team and their fans celebrated the Class of 2024 players & their families. And it was GHS senior, Brandon Rosa, who tossed 6 shutout innings and allowed just 4 Green Knight hits, while earning his 3rd win of the year. He was followed by senior co-captain, Bryce Meder, who tossed a hitless, scoreless 7th, while earning his 4th save of the year to complete the shutout victory.

Guilford scored both its runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Lucas Deshefy & senior, Colin Pompano began the inning with back-to-back singles, before moving up to 2nd and 3rd base on an infield ground-out. Matt DiNardo would score Deshefy on a sacrifice fly, and Pompano would score on a wild pitch that gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead after 2.

That was all Guilford would need as Rosa & Meder did not allow a NDWH run. Deshefy had 2 hits in the game, and both he and senior co-captain, Michael Buccaro had a double.

In less than 20 hrs. following their win on Fri., Guilford will play their final regular season game of 2024 when they take on the Cheshire Rams at Palmer Field in Middletown on Sat., 5/18 - an 11:00 am. first pitch. The Senior Night win sets their overall record at 13-6, with a 10-5 tally in SCC play.
