Grizzlies Get Past Law in Milford

Adam Copeland pitched a complete-game, allowing 0 earned runs without walking a batter, to notch his 3rd win of the year as the Guilford Grizzlies came from behind to defeat Jonathan Law, 5-4 in Milford. Lucas Ametrano had a RBI triple and a RBI double to lead the Guilford offense vs. the Lawmen.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Guilford High, but was moved to Law's turf field on Friday morning, due to the rain that made GHS field unplayable.

After a scoreless 1st, Law took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on a Guilford error that lead to a run, along with RBI singles by Tyler Fonck and Michael Merchant.

After Law's 3-run 2nd, Copeland would then settle in and hold the Lawmen scoreless until the bottom of the 7th, allowing his team to scratch their way into the lead over the next few innings.

In the top of the 3rd, Joe Tafro reached base on a fielder's choice, and a few batters later, Ametrano tripled over the Law centerfielder to score Tafro and cut the Law lead to 3-1. (video)

In the top of the 4th, Lucas Deshefy lead off with a walk and moved to 3rd on a single by Bryce Meder. Deshefy would score on a double-play groundout to make it 3-2, Law.

In the top of the 5th, the Grizzlies would score 3 times to take a 5-3 lead. Joe Tafro walked before his brother, Alex Tafro would single him over to 3rd. Ametrano then delivered a ground-rule double down the right field line that scored Joe Tafro to tie the game. (video) The Grizzlies then scored 2 more on a wild pitch that plated Alex Tafro and a bases-loaded walk to Meder, that pushed Ametrano across for Guilford's 5th run.

In the bottom of the 7th, Law's leadoff batter reached on an error vs. Copeland, stole 2nd and would score on a 2-out RBI single by Declan Wywoda. But Copeland was able to push through and get the final out before any further damage was done, securing the Grizzlies 4th win of the year.

Up next for Guilford is a visit from the Amity Spartans, who will be at GHS Field on Monday, 4/15 for a 4 pm. first pitch. The Grizzlies will then welcome the Morgan Huskies to GHS on Wed., 4/17, also at 4 pm.
