Guilford Doubles-Up Cheshire in 10-5 Win

Brandon Rosa earned his first win of the year by pitching 6 solid innings in his start vs. Cheshire, and Bryce Meder went 2 for 4 with a double, triple, and 3 RBI as the Guilford Grizzlies outscored the Cheshire Rams, 10-5, at Cheshire HS on Monday.

After a scoreless 1st, Guilford took a 5-0 lead in the top of the 2nd, highlighted by Lucas Deshefy's 2-RBI single and a 2-RBI double by Meder. (video) In the bottom of the 2nd, Cheshire scored a run on a Jackson Enders sacrifice fly, and it was 5-1 heading into the 3rd.

In the top of the 3rd, Finn Matlosz singled home Alex Tafro to make it 6-1, (video) and then Matlosz would score on a Cheshire outfield error to make it 7-1, Grizzlies.

Rosa got through the first 3 innings holding Cheshire to just 1 run, despite working around a few Guilford fielding errors. In the bottom of the 4th, Kyle Cyr's 2-RBI double to right capped off a 3-run inning that made it 7-4, Grizzlies, heading into the 5th.

Neither team scored in the 5th but Guilford would add 2 more in the top of the 6th on Meder's RBI triple, (video) and Colin Pompano's sacrifice fly that scored Meder for a 9-4 Guilford lead. Guilford added a 10th run in the top of the 7th on a Lucas Ametrano RBI single.

Cheshire would scratch out one more run in their last at bat, before Adam Copeland came on in relief and shut the door on the Rams for the Grizzlies' 10-5 win.

Guilford is now 7-2 on the year, and will next travel to Daniel Hand HS in Madison on Wed., 4/24, a 3:45 pm. start, which will mark the halfway point of their regular season. On Saturday, 4/27, the Grizzilies return home for a morning game, beginning at 11:00 am., vs. the West Haven Blue Devils at GHS Field.
